How to rear and care for arowana

Arowana tanks are now selected by many families not only to bring wealth to the homeowners but also to chase the home, banishing all the bad and good. However, only when you know how to raise arowana below, you will get the healthiest fish. Let's find out how that technique!

1. Number of arowana in rearing

Because arowana is a terrestrial and aggressive species, you should never have 2 or 3 mates in the same tank but you can only keep 1 fish in 1 tank or 6-10 in a big tank. In a collective environment, their aggressiveness seems more pure.

2. Arowana aquarium

Arowana aquarium is the environment for the arowana to grow and develop well, so special attention should be paid to this. As  aquarium fish  prefer to swim on the surface of the water, the height of the lake is not necessarily a factor compared to their length and width, for example, small fish about 15cm, a lake size 120 x 45 x 45cm, If about 30cm or more, the lake is 180 x 60 x 45 cm long is the most ideal.

- The location of the lake must be a place where there are few people traveling to avoid stress for the fish, the surrounding pressure can easily affect the background of the fish, especially the type of oversized Kim Long, sunlight is also a special factor It is especially important for the fish to color, preferably where the aquarium is exposed to natural sunlight in the morning or afternoon. In the evening, do not turn off the power too quickly, it is best to turn on the room lights a few minutes before turning off the lights. If the darkness comes too quickly the fish will panic sometimes jump around and cause injury.

How to rear and care for arowana

Arowana aquarium is as wide as possible and must have a lid

3. Cover to avoid dust or dirt

The tank lid is an indispensable part of the arowana tank because the arowana is famous for being the champion of high jump in the wilderness. If you have a space, it must be smaller than the head size of the fish, for larger ones, it is advisable to remove heavy objects such as bricks to increase the weight of the lid. Many large dragons suddenly died from jumping out of the lake without the owner knowing.

4. Water temperature in the tank should be stable

You should keep the temperature in the range between 28 - 32 degrees Celsius, except in the case of treatment is increased to 34 degrees C. Low temperatures will create conditions for disease to develop and high temperatures will help eliminate bacteria, however, too high a temperature will make the soft cells around the head wrinkle more, so the above temperature is most appropriate.

5. Pay attention to the pH in the arowana system

You should keep the pH from 6.5 to 7.5 because arowana prefer pale and slightly turbid water, so the pH must be lower and can be added "black water" (a commercially available chemical refined from peat leaf - convex leaves) in Indo forests) at ornamental fish shops. The sudden change in pH is extremely dangerous for fish, so you need to have a pH meter to make sure.

6. How to raise arowana - Change water

You can change the water once or twice a week, depending on the size of the fish, 30% for small fish and 50% for large fish, depending on the number of fish raised in the lake, the volume of water and the size of the tank. If you replace it with tap water, then sometimes add "Black Water" (Black Water Extract) to calm the pH as well as create a familiar environment of natural water.

7. How to release fish when you bring them back

Dropping fish at the beginning of the tank is also a skill you need to learn because not everyone knows how to release fish properly so as not to hurt the fish.

First, you need to settle for a minimum of 48 hours before you put the fish into the lake.

- Add 1% of the salt to the water capacity and increase the Oxygen machine to maximum running, if there is black water, mix about 20cc.

- Water quality index in the lake is: Ammonia = 0, Nitrites> 10 and pH = 6.5-7.5.

- To balance the temperature, put the bag of fish into the lake (not removed) for 15-20 minutes.

- Open the bag and take 1 glass of water to pour into the bag, every 5 minutes, pour 1 time until the bag is full of water

- Pour half of the water in the bag into the lake, repeat every 5 minutes pour 1 cup of lake water into the bag until it is full.

- After 5 minutes, dip the whole bag into the lake and release the fish to the lake.

- Do not feed during the first day or 24 hours after

- Do not pump oxygen into the bag if the fish looks healthy, because this will push the pH up unexpectedly and make the fish shocked.

8. How to feed arowana effectively

Proper feeding is also an important factor in keeping arowana healthy. Although 80% of the natural color of a fish is due to a gene from the parent, but providing the fish with nutritious food will not limit the development of the beauty of the fish. You should change a variety of foods such as small shrimp in the market, fresh shrimp, crickets, cockroaches, worms, milk clones, Siamese fighting fish, hiss, dry food ... If you want the fish to grow red, you should feed small shrimp or whole shells (shells containing color-stimulating carotenoids) are the main meals. Particularly market shrimp should be divided into small packages to keep its freshness.

You should only buy crickets and cockroaches raised by farmers to avoid fish poisoning by insecticides you often use indoors. Small fishes such as Siamese fighting fish, 3 tails and juveniles must make sure they have been raised for about a week before being prey for the arowana because they contain poisonous helminths that will spread through fish easily. It is important to feed the fish with highly nutritious foods to ensure maturity.

Feed fish less than 25 cm 2-3 times a day. Larger, once a day is. Do not overfeed, just feed about 70%, the fish will not get bored. The heater should be kept at 28-32 degrees Celsius because the warmth of the water will stimulate the fish to eat more delicious, of course will grow faster. You should never leave food in the tank for a long time because it will pollute the water environment, so you should take out leftovers and fish feces in the lake as soon as possible right after each feeding.

The above arowana farming techniques (arowana breeding techniques) are the basic steps that need to be strictly followed for fish growth and development. If you still have any questions, you can visit Phuc Long aquarium - an official representative of AZOO in Vietnam for a free consultation in the shortest time. Good luck !
